Researchers used the CRICO Strategies’ national database of medical liability claims, Comparative Benchmarking System, to analyze the issue of medical errors in radiation oncology (RO). The closed RO cases reviewed ranged from years 2005 to 2014.
The analysis informed researchers that although closed malpractice cases involving RO are rare events, certain populations may be overrepresented in closed claims. These data can help inform providers and systems with the goal of ultimately improving patient safety.
The study published in the peer-review journal, International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics.
